Ensure your x-cart seo mods don't cloak or your google listings might croak!Posted by Jon Peters on May 24, 2008For X-Cart SEO, it is important to ensure that only desired pages are indexed, and that print and other duplicated pages are blocked to prevent duplicate content and consolidate page rank. Some x-cart seo mods detect bots and attempt to ensure the bots see 1 URL per page destination while the user would see multiple. I am however, weary to use such a method due to Google's Webmaster Guidelines which states: Cloaking
Cloaking refers to the practice of presenting different content or URLs to users and search engines. Serving up different results based on user agent may cause your site to be perceived as deceptive and removed from the Google index. Rather than risk Google removal, I recommend using a robots.txt file for blocking search engine access to duplicated urls.
